Slut

Slut

Since I was a little girl, I was always given out to whenever I said that I hated something. Instead it had to be changed to "I don't like". Which I totally understand, considering that my vegetables probably weren't out to personally attack me.

So now, I save it for a few rare things on this earth that I genuinely detest; and I can say that one of them runs over a number of words that all mean the same thing.

The words range from Slut to Whore; and I can say with a heated passion that I hate these words.

I guess that it is a hatred that has slowly developed over the past number of years. But only recently I have realised how overused it is for such a demeaning and cruel word.

I found myself using it in conversations. I would say thinks like "I know fifth harmony are a little too slutty for me" and I feel so bad for saying that now. Because truly, they are a little out there for me, but that doesn't give me (or anyone) the right to hate on them for wearing a dress that I wouldn't be comfortable in myself.

Because if you feel comfortable in that short skirt, and if you are not actually offending anybody by wearing it; then what's the actual harm in that? They are not a SLUT; or any other demeaning label that you can put on them.

There is no point in putting someone down just for the sake of it.

Then when people are like "Oh my God, she's such a whore, she slept with like 5 guys in the last month".

Firstly, it is none of your business who that person does or does not sleep with. Secondly, as long as both parties involved feel comfortable and are safe, then what is the harm in that.

So that person is not a WHORE or any other demeaning label that you can place on them for their actions.

I want to say that this does mean that you agree with said persons actions or choices, but I am just saying that it means that you do not have to comment on it.

So I can say that I don't like Fifth Harmony's dress sense and that is totally fair enough. But I pretty happy to just leave that statement by itself without adding any labels to it.

So please don't use these words to bring others down. Bring each other up, and EMPOWER each other.
