"I Was Only Joking" || Bullying

"I Was Only Joking" || Bullying

Bullying is a very well known topic at the moment. Bullying tends to be the first reaction to any conversation lately.

I am not saying that is a bad thing, because bullying is a very serious issue. But people tend to discuss the same type of bullies on a loop. The aggressive one or the one who cyberbullies.

The one that is often overlooked is the one who plays on the jokes.

The one who can say something completely vicious and mean, but then, as soon as you start to react, they immediately jump in with “ I was only joking, calm down” or “stop being dramatic, I was only joking”. You would think that the friend beside you would jump in but by the time they draw breath, it has already been labelled as a joke.

It seems to be the best coverup in the world.

Bullies can then hide behind an apparently joking persona and still crush people, without anyone batting an eyelid.

Which is ten thousand percent, wrong.

Whenever someone says anything cutting to me, I always try to be the first to draw breath to tell them off. Somehow I am always too late, and I am labelled dramatic and they are labelled as the innocent joker in the whole charade.

I am still struggling to win these people over. Maybe I should take breathing lessons or something, I am not entirely sure.

You see, you could jump in after the coverup and give it to them, but I have never won with this tactic. Your friends then turn you into the bad guy, because the cover up isn’t often mistaken for an apology, which it is most definitely not.

People don’t call this bullying and it most definitely is. I don’t know how to combat it yet, but I just want it to be recognised as a type of bullying. I don’t want people to get away with
it anymore.

So if you are a victim of this type of bullying, and it is usually from a friend, I don’t know what to tell you to do. I could say to bash their head in, but that is most definitely illegal and I do not endorse that… You could break away from that friend, but that usually means that you lose a group of friends.

There are not a whole lot of options right now, but I will find a solution, both for myself and for you guys.

So for now, I guess that a little bashing wouldn’t be totally unorthodox…..
