The Grammy's Rundown
What a night..
My favorite music awards night of the year, and I have had a countdown calendar for it for weeks. I am glad to say that it did not let me down.
One thing that I will say is that time differences are a b**ch because I didn't get to experience the live twitter feeds throughout the award show, which is always a fun experience. Particularly when you belong to a certain swiftie fandom.
However, I did witness the wins of Pop Vocal Album and of Music Video for Miss Swift. My biggest fear was that she would not win Album of the Year which she so deserved, and so badly wanted.
But we all know how that one went... (I must say one of her best and most empowering speeches, and the most graceful comeback to Kanye's claims - watch here )
Aside, from everything Swiftie related, the night really was amazing. SLAY SLAY SLAY.
The fashion side of this event was pretty much spot on, if a little boring in places. I wasn't too mean, as instead of slotting people into the Worst Dressed category, I put people into that inbetween category... Which isn't necessarily good but hey, I tried.
Now let's get into things.
Record of the Year: Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars, "Uptown Funk"
Album of the Year: Taylor Swift, 1989
Best New Artist: Meghan Trainor
Best Rock Performance: Alabama Shakes, "Don't Wanna Fight"
Best Musical Theater Album: Hamilton
Song of the Year: Ed Sheeran, "Thinking Out Loud"
Best Country Album: Chris Stapleton, Traveller
Best Rap Album: Kendrick Lamar, To Pimp a Butterfly
Best Pop Duo/Group Performance: Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars, "Uptown Funk"
Best Pop Solo Performance: Ed Sheeran, "Thinking Out Loud"
Best Rap Song: Kendrick Lamar, "Alright"
Best Music Video: Taylor Swift feat. Kendrick Lamar, "Bad Blood"
Best Pop Vocal Album: Taylor Swift, 1989
I picked some very different looks for my favorites this time round because there was definitely a lot of variety on the carpet this year. A great mix of color, even though it was coupled with a LOT of black; on the likes of Adele, Demi and Meghan Trainor.
My favourite black look has to be on Alessandra Ambrosio in Versace, as I think she got just the right amount of fierceness with an element of high fashion.
Shout-outs have to be made to the more elegantly dressed women of the night. Particularly in the form of Ellie Goulding and Serayah.
Taylor and Lianne La Havas (who I had previouslyy never heard of) made me fall in love with daring color again after a long Winter. Completely in love with both of these looks.
(Special mention to Ciara for managing to do the whole 'half naked' thing while retaining some dignity)
Florence is my only real major loser in this category as I really don't understand this dress in the slightest. Truly a no no.
Now, I am a huge Selena fan, and she did look stunning in Calvin Klein, I just feel like it wasn't enough for the Grammy's. It didn't seem to fit her right, and clearly wasn't comfortabel as she actually changed later into the show (into a much better number). I just found this to be quite disappointing considering how well she has been performing in the style stakes (particularly street style wise) recently.
Ariana Grande was on that edge for me as well. I just feel like for a girl with such a teeny tiny figure, that this dress didn't suit her body type at all. The straps looked awkward and although I loved the idea that she was going for, I feel like it just feel short.
And I guess Gaga is just Gaga; and I completely respect her tribute to icon David Bowie. I guess I just grew accustomed to the kind of elegance that we witnessed at the Golden Globes earlier this year....
So that's it for my opinion, what did you think?
Who did you think really killed the red carpet? And which was your favorite performance?
